Corporate Social Responsibility

Our business is aware of its environmental and social responsibilities and strives to operate in a sustainable and ethical way.

Since we established our UK and Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) steering committee in 2013, I am delighted to report that we have implemented a number of initiatives across the business that provide a structured approach to CSR and set minimum standards to which we work.

We are continuing to encourage engagement with CSR at all levels, both in the business and with out external partners, to ensure our activities are appropriate, relevant and affordable and that we set targets against which we can measure and publish our progress.

We have made tremendous progress over the past year, and I know that with the support of every employee our company will be a safe, sustainable and ethical place to work and for our supply chain to do business with.

Our CSR commitments

Our CSR work can be separated into four separate areas; work place, market place, the environment and our community.

Baxi in the community

We are committed to working with our local communities on projects that improve the society in which we operate, such as donating boilers to community projects or providing sponsorship to local community events.

Each site has continued to work with its local charities and communities and in 2014 the whole business came together to man the phones for Sport Relief, raising £67,549 and taking 2,311 calls.

Marie Curie

Our employees have chosen Marie Curie as Baxi's charity of the year for the past two years. We hold a huge range if fundraising events throughout the year - from marathons to bake sales - and are incredibly proud to of our fundraising efforts.

As we celebrate our 150th birthday in 2016, we chose to set a fundraising target of £150,000 which we reached in August!

Our work

We believe that the quality of our people is key to our future success and long term sustainability. We aim to recruit, develop and retain all employees by inspiring and motivating them to reach their full potential. We will provide a safe and secure environment which is conducive to the health and welfare of our employees.

In support of our commitment to the work place, health weeks have been held throughout the business with activities including health checks, fitness activities, raffles to win bicycles and free fruit for employees. We are aiming to continually engage with employees at all levels to promote business practice and culture.

Every month, or quarterly for smaller sites, employees are nominated for the 'Beyond the Call of Duty' award by their colleagues. The award recognizes exceptional efforts and achievements, and winners receive a silver badge and a cash prize. In Spring 2014, we announced our first employee of the year, Donna Brown, who is based at Erdington.

We recognize our moral and legal responsibilities with regards to a number of unethical business practices such as modern slavery and human trafficking. We take these responsibilities incredibly seriously and have created statements to give guidance and instruction on the standards we expect from our businesses in the manufacture of components and raw materials supplied to our companies.

Environment

We value our environment and are committed to conservation. We seek to identify and minimise carbon emissions, noise pollution, waste, and packaging, in our workplace, in our products, and throughout our supply chain.

In support of our commitment to conserve the environment, we are working with our carbon reduction partner Anthesis to calculate our organisation's carbon footprint. When this has been completed, the report will help to show us where we can further reduce our carbon emission. The latest report by the Energy Saving Trust shows that the carbon footprint of our car and van fleet has been reduced since the previous report four years ago

Market place

We are committed to operating an ethical business and quality assured supply chain that delivers exceptional customer satisfaction with class leading products and brand values. We will proactively encourage our suppliers to comply with our vision and values at all times.

We have been working in partnership with Ecovadis, an independent CSR assessment company. In 2014 our Ecovadis score showed excellent progress for the organizational carbon footprint of all UK sites. These results endorse our commitment to customer satisfaction and sustainability.

The relationship with our partner Anthesis developed significantly during 2014, and our parent company BDR Thermea has also decided to engage its services.

We will endeavour to continually improve our commitment to CSR and communicate developments to our stakeholders.
