Maintaining a healthy boiler
A healthy boiler means a happy household. Regular maintenance will keep your boiler working efficiently, safely and cost effectively.
Annual servicing from a Gas Safe engineer is very important, and a requirement of your warranty but in between services, what can you do to keep your boiler performing at its best?
Here are a few boiler maintenance dos and don'ts…
Don't block-up your boiler
If your boiler is sited in a cupboard, or you plan to build one around it, be sure to allow the manufacturer's recommended clearances so it can be accessed and serviced safely.
It's also crucial to keep air vents, grilles and flues free from blockages.
Do not remove the case
Only a Gas Safe registered engineer is legally qualified to remove your boiler's casing. If you think there might be a problem with your appliance, call an expert. Don't go looking or listening for an answer under the casing.
Doing it yourself with gas is extremely dangerous and can cause leaks, fires, explosions and Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Do keep it clean
If your boiler is in the kitchen, there's every chance it might need a clean now and again. Just wipe the case with a damp cloth (nothing abrasive), then dry it.
