This field engineer training Apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to learn from experienced heating engineers in the field alongside studying for your Gas Engineering Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard at college.
What does a Service Engineer Apprenticeship at Baxi look like?
A Baxi service engineer Apprenticeship offers a comprehensive and supportive learning experience. Here are some key highlights:
1. Training and Education: You'll study for your Gas Engineering Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard at a technical training college.
2. Hands-On Experience: You'll work alongside experienced heating engineers, gaining practical skills in the field
3. Support and Mentorship: Each Apprentice is assigned a mentor who provides guidance and support throughout the Apprenticeship.

Lets meet Chris one of our Team Managers who started his career as an Apprentice.

What was your Apprenticeship in?
Initially I had a plumbing level 2 Apprenticeship and did an underfloor heating course as part of this. After doing this I went on to get my gas qualifications.
How old were you during your Apprenticeship?
16
What is your role now?
I was a Service Engineer at Baxi for 7 years and then in 2022 I became a Field Team Manager. In this role I managed a team of up to 29 Service Engineers which has included up to 5 Apprentices - its been a pleasure to see my team grow and develop their skills to become excellent heating engineers.
What made you choose an Apprenticeship over main stream education?
I went to college initially to do a sports course but realised that his way of learning was linked more to hands on role where I could earn and learn at the same time.
Where would you imagine your career progressing to?
As the business grows I’m keen to also develop as a manager within the business. I enjoy seeing my team grow and develop and take time to reflect on their progress.
Have you go on to do any further education past your initial Apprenticeship?
I have done a range of training courses whilst at Baxi covering all aspects of my job including gas safety and management.

What was your Apprenticeship in?
Plumbing & heating
How old were you during your Apprenticeship?
I was 15, I left school on the Friday and started my Apprenticeship on the Monday.
What is your role now?
I’m the Northern Operations Manager at Baxi, manging a team of 7 Team Managers and 140 engineers.
What made you choose an Apprenticeship over main stream education?
I did 1 weeks work experience with a P&H company and they said that if I ever wanted an Apprenticeship then they’d have an
opportunity for me.
Where would you imagine your career progressing to?
I have been the Northern Operations Manager for 2.5 yrs now and am keen to keep developing in this role, supporting my experienced engineers and the engineers of the future.
Have you gone on to do any further education past your initial Apprenticeship?
Through Baxi I have range of different course both related to engineering but also management courses which have heled me to become a strong manager.

We are looking for ambitious and committed people who are passionate about developing their career within the heating industry.
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold or be working towards Level 2 Functional skills/GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths, English and Science
- Be self-motivated to succeed in the Apprenticeship with a real willingness to learn and a curious mind
- We accept applications from all over the country, however you must be willing to travel to Birmingham and other locations for a minimum of 20 weeks over a 2 year period

You will study at James Watt college in Birmingham for 20 weeks over the two year programme. James Watt College are a centre of excellence for technical training and education, with a state-of-the-art gas engineering workshop.
